Projects

The two projects in my que right now are the Lacy Baktus and the above bird baby quilt. The baby quilt has been a joint effort between P and I, but I am now on my own as sweet P has declared that he does not have the patience for hand sewing on the binding.
Crumpet was a little miffed when I pulled his pillow across the desk to make room for taking photos near the window, but he warmed to the idea when I covered him with the quilt. There are few things the sweet kitten likes more than being allowed to lay on or under my quilting project of the moment.

marshmallows & star quiche

2010 might be the Year of the Homemade Marshmallow around here. I am loving the simple process, feeling brave whilst working with molten sugar, and most of all, the taste of homemade marshmallow dipped in dark chocolate. oh yum.
This quiche is a recipe from my mom, we eat it for dinner as a refrigerator cleaner about every other week. This week we ate quiche in order to celebrate the the new star shaped pan.

Good eating

P made saag last week for dinner. Oh my it was good.
At the end of a beautiful and snowy weekend in the mountains, I became a convert to pineapple and jalapeƱo pizza. This orange, star shaped silicon pan coming home with me after a quick trip to a Le Crueset outlet shop.
What better way to celebrate a star shaped pan than the creation of a Deborah Madison pecan and blueberry coffee cake.

Eating, skiing & knitting

This past Saturday was the Sticks 'n' Stitches event at the Colorado Avalanche game. Pre-game, Phil, Ellie & I ate at the D Bar, every bite of which was fantastic.
Sunday Phil and I did a 10 mile cross country ski in the Brainard Lake area. The above photo is of Phil skiing across Long Lake.

My Fireside Footies finally felted down to just the right side. Oh how deliciously cozy these are.
Newly on the needles is my Lacy Baktus. I started this project while at the hockey game on Saturday, and so far, the pattern is simple and full of instant gratification.

Gulp

P and I just signed up to ride the Triple Bypass on July 10. In one day we will ride 120 miles, over three mountain passes, with a total elevation gain of 10,300 feet. As I sit here at noon, still in my pajamas, it seems as though I have a serious bit of training ahead of me. This year I am all about setting goals and making things happen, so, I guess this is just one more goal that I will be working to make happen. yikes.

Crafty Ladies tote bag

I put this this tote bag together last week just in time to carry to Crafty Lady night at Ellie's. During Crafty Ladies I hand stitched the hole in the lining closed. I had been carrying my library tote bag to Crafty Ladies, which just wouldn't do. The exterior fabric happened to be on sale at Fancy Tiger the last time I was there. I purchased a yard, and will be able to make one more tote bag with the leftovers.
I am very interested right now in learning to make bags of all shapes and sizes. This morning I made Amy Butlers's Stash and Dash Coin Purse. This first coin purse will make its way to my mom as it will match the Frenchy Bag I made her for Christmas.
There are a few quirks about the zipper in this little bag that I am not too pleased with, although, I think they are my fault and not due to the pattern. I am not great about reading patterns closely. I have a second coin purse cut out and ready to be put together. I intend to follow the written instructions on the pattern very closely on this second coin purse, perhaps the zipper will turn out better.

Neckties for Parker

Baby Parker is 8 days old today, which reminded me that I have been meaning to make him some necktie onesies. I will brave the snowstorm to drop these at the post office so that they may make their way to a chubby cutie in Iowa.

Homemade marshmallows are delicious

In between bites of chocolate covered homemade marshmallows and dealing with serious cat assistance, P and I managed to get a bit of work done on J&B's baby quilt.
The request: yellow, red(ish), brown and green baby quilt that somehow includes birds.

Also, P's Fireside Booties finally felted to the proper size. The fit him like a dream, and look super cute too!
